The London City Royals, have just shocked the British basketball market by signing the famous twin brothers, Darjus and Ksistof Lavrinovic for the 2019-2020 BBL (British Basketball League) season. Throughout their careers, the tallest twins in the world, currently under Guinness World Record review, have led various European teams to numerous Euroleague, Eurocup and national championship titles. The famous brother’s arrival could mean a huge boost for English basketball in terms of both – quality level and image.
The Lavrinovic brothers, also known as the LavTwins, at the age of 39 are not ready to give up their careers yet. After spending the last season in the Lithuanian Basketball League with Skycop Prienai, this year they are joining the British Basketball League for the first time. Celebrity brothers are excited to continue their careers after considering retirement, and will make their debut for the London City Royals on the 28th of September against the Bristol Flyers.
„We are very delighted to join one of the largest and most well-known professional basketball clubs in the United Kingdom and we’re looking forward to the upcoming season. Even though we are old in terms of basketball, our bones are still strong enough to carry us through a new season”, said Ksistof Lavrinovic. „Basketball is a second religion in our country and we know that Lithuanians in the UK have been missing us for quite some time. We hope that the support from the Eastern European fans will make basketball in the UK great again”.
Their successful and award-winning basketball careers have helped the Lavrinovic twins to gain an increasing amount of attention and recognition across the globe. The brothers have been members of the Lithuanian National Basketball Team for several years and had medal finishes in global tournaments like EuroBasket, Summer Olympics, FIBA World Cup. They also played for major Euroleague clubs, including Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow, Fenerbahce Istanbul, and once were considered by the recent NBA winner – Toronto Raptors.
London City Royals are a new professional basketball club, established in 2018. It is currently playing in the highest professional league in the United Kingdom. Alongside the famous Lavrinovic brothers, the club has already succeeded in recruiting 6 British nationals to return home and represent London.
